US East Transit > Philadelphia > Subways & El's
Broad Street Subway

Philly's Subway

This north-south trunk line was designed for high capacity transit using NY as a model. North of Locust this is a t track subway complete with local and express service. There are provisions throughout the line for branches, however only the Ridge St branch was built.

The first section of line was between Locust and Olney. Later the line was extended south twice until it reached the current Patterson terminal. The line was also extended north one stop to Fern Rock. This is the location of the shops and yards for this line. This is also the only location where Broad St cars see the light of day.
