Boston Subway |
The Green Line is made up of 5 lines serving
central Boston on N. America's oldest subway. Four of the lines operate
as traditional streetcar lines outside of the subway. The Riverside line
operates on an old Steam railroad right-of-way converted in the 1950's.
This line is often called the first light rail line in the US before the
phrase was even coined.
There is also another light rail line. The
Ashmont-Mattapan High Speed Line. It is considered a branch of the Red
line metro. It utilizes 11 PCC cars built in 1945/46, 3 of which have
been meticulously restored . Now that
Newark has retired their PCC's, Boston now has the only PCC's left
in regular transit service (San Francisco and Kenosha WI both run PCC's
but are considered tourist lines)
