The Return to rail transit

When people think of Los Angeles they think of freeways and traffic. But today LA is working on developing a first class transit system. Up thru the 1950’s the LA basin had streetcars (Yellow Cars) and Interurbans (Red Cars) going all over. At its peak there was 1000 miles of electric railways. The last line stopped running in the 1960’s from LA to Long Beach.

In 1990, the modern ear of rail transit started with the Blue Line, a light rail line running from Load Angeles to Long Beach over mostly the same right-of-way as the Red Car.

Today LA has a two line Subway System, 4 Light Rail Lines, and a network of Commuter Rail Lines. More Light Rail is coming, and expansion of the Subway is underway

There are short trolley lines at 2 different outdoor shopping malls, and there is the Angels Flight Funicular
