Yamanote Line

This is probably the best known railway line in all of Japan. The Yamanote Line circles the capitol city of Tokyo. It runs both CW and CCW. At rush hours trains run every two minutes and are jammed packed full! It takes just about 1 hour to complete the circle.

The Yamanote line more-or-less defines the central city of Tokyo and the inner suburbs. All of Tokyo's big train stations are on this line. It is a must ride. If you dare, ride it during rush-hours. The famous platform pushers man every door on the train at several key stations. My son and I purposely did it once. It was even funny on how "close" everybody is to each other on the train. NY subways don't even come close!!
