JR Commuter

JR East was originally part of the government built and operated JNR but was privatized in the 1980's. JR moves a good portion of Tokyo's commuters. One of the busiest lines is the Yamanote. This line circles the center city forming a loop defining Tokyo. Only the subway lines and the JR Chuo/Sobu lines go through the circle. The frequency of service beats most city's rapid transit services. The best station to watch these trains is at Shinjuku. Here you get an idea how there is order in chaos.
