San Diego, California

The Light Rail Pioneer

San Diego started the Light Rail revolution in the US. It started as an austere Light Rail line running from downtown to the Mexican Border. The system was name the San Diego Trolley. The system has slowly grown with two line out to El Cajon in the east, plus a short line further east to Santee. And the latest extension of the original Blue line north to UC San Diego.

The Trolley also operates the Silver Line which uses heritage equipment that loop around the downtown Light Rail tracks.

San Diego also has a commuter service called The Coaster running along the Pacific coastline from San Diego to Oceanside

The San Diego region also has a diesel Light rail line called the Sprinter. It runs from Oceanside to Escondido in North County.

To round out transit is the venerable bus system that covers all the rail gaps.
