Duquesne Incline

Incline

Although 7 years younger then its neighbor incline, the Mononghela, the Duquesne Incline retaine most of it original look. IT is very popular with tourist amd has magnificant views of downtown Pittsburgh and the Point, where the Alleghney and Monongahela Rivers join to form the Ohio River.

There is a parking area on the lower level. The upper level has several good resturants to choose from with great views.

The incline had closed in the early 1960's due to low patronage and was endangered of being dismantled. Residents on top of Mt Washington formed the Society for the Preservation of the Duquesne Incline to re-opne the incline. The scoiety operates the incline today, but is owned by the Port Authority (bus & light rail operator). This incline is a must do while in Pittsburgh! And for an extra fee, you can tour the machine room, which is awesome to watch when the incline is in motion!
