METRA is the 3rd largest commuter rail system in the country. LIRR and Metro-North in NY are larger. Metra serves a large are of Chicago. Most of the line are diesel with the exception of the old Illinois Central which has overhead wire.
METRA operates out of 4 stations in downtown Chicago: Union; LaSalle; Randolph & Ogilive Transportation Center
