This station was originally called Dempster St (and often still is) when it was opened by the Chicago North Shore Interurban line. CRT trains would terminate here while North Shore trains continued to Milwaukie along the Skokie Valley route. CRT stopped service in 1948, North Shore quit in 1963. In 1964 CTA built a temporary station as part of the Skokie Swift demonstration project. Today the Yellow Line continues to operate to this station, with 1994 rebuilt station.
