Hiroshima been building what I would term a light metro system. It is a rubber-tired system utilizing small cars with platform doors at stations. Most of the system is above ground except for in downtown Hiroshima.
The current one line system serves the suburbs not served by streetcars or JR. There are plans for extensions and eventually will link with the main train station.
