Sydney Tramway Museum

Trams, trams, and more trams! (& they run!)

Loftus, Australia   (49 photos)

This is one of the premiere tram museums of the world with a large collection of trams from Down Under and around the world. They have a great demonstration tram line that includes going into a National Park across the highway from the Museum

I felt I had a connection to the museum based on my volunteer hours spent operating a Sydney O-Class tram at the Oregon Electric Railway Museum. They allowed me to go to some of the non-public areas. I got a first-class tour of their newest acquisition of a Sydney low-floor LRV built in 1998 and retired in 2015. If you are a tram fan, this place must be on your bucket list!

The museum is located in Loftus about a 30~45 min train ride from Sydney. The Museum is a 2-minute walk from the Loftus station.
