Memphis Trolley

The Madison Ave Line runs East from downtown along its namesake street. It is the newest line on the system. Unlike the Main St. Line, it was built to Light Rail standards. However the line uses the same equipment as the Main St and Riverfront lines. However MATA usually only run the double-truck cars on this line.

The line was built to serve the Medical District. It ends at Cleveland Ave with provisions for further extensions east. There are plans to extend, or branch off of this line to serve the busy Memphis International Airport. A major employer with FedEx's main hub as well as a second tier hub for Northwest Airlines.

The trolleys run much faster on this line then the original routes, plus the stations are larger and are designed for future low floor LRV's
