San Francisco Transit

San Francisco BART

The City by the Bay is a wonderful transit city. You have the modern BART subway system connecting Oakland and outlying suburbs to Market St as well as to SFO Airport.

MUNI Metro

MUNI is the transit agency which operates an array of transit. There are the famous Cable Car lines going over SF's hills. There is the MUNI Metro that operates streetcar style on the west side, then subway style under Market Street (but over BART). There is the F-Market and soon E-Embarcadero Streetcar lines that use PCC's and Milan, Italian Peter Witt cars. MUNI operates a vast network of electric trolley buses as well. This makes SF the king of electric transit on the west coast.

SF also has a commuter line, Caltrain, that connects SF with San Jose and Gilroy along the Peninsula.
