San Francisco

BART is a major link for the Bay Area. It proved its worth during the big earthquake several years ago. 

There is debate if BART is a true metro, as I have classified it. It is probably closer to what Germans would call an S-Bahn. S-Bahn's have higher frequency than commuter trains, and often they use mid-city tunnels. This is very close to what BART is. It is a regional rail system serving many cities around the Bay. 

The extension to Warm Springs is now open, Extension into San Jose area are under construction/planning. In 2018, BART opened the eBart extension to Antioch.
