U-Bahn

Berlin faced a lot of re-construction after the wall fell in 1989. The re-unification of the city of Berlin includes the U-Bahn, S-Bahn as well as the tram networks.

Strassenbahn

Berlin has a vast U-Bahn system. It was first opened in 1902. With the Berlin Wall now down, several "Ghost" stations have been re-opened and Routes U1 & U2 have been re-extended to their former terminals.

Berlin S-Bahn

Berlin still maintains a huge streetcar network. Nearly all of it resides in the former East Berlin. After the wall came down, small extensions into the west were made.

Nearly any city of any size in Germany has an S-Bahn system. Berlin has a huge S-Bahn System using 3rd rail for power. These regional metros are coordinated with the city's other transportation modes, including thru ticketing. Berlin is still in the midst of restoring S-Bahn service to pre-WWII levels.
