Vienna Transit - U-Bahn
U6

Vienna

This line, like the U4, originates from the 1898 steam Stadtbahn system, with stations designed by Otto Wagner. It was closed in 1918 due to the war, then re-opened in 1926 for electric tram trains. In 1980 the line was upgraded, but not quite to full metro like the U4. It still has overhead wire and low platforms. The equipment uses is basically modern low floor light rail cars. The U6 also utilized part of a former fast tram line. This line seemed like it was always over crowded during my visit.
