Vienna Transit - U-Bahn
U4

Vienna

This line was originally part of the Vienna Stadtbahn network. Originally it was a steam line opening in 1898 with stations designed by Otto Wagner. The system closed in 1918 due to WWI. The line was converted to overhead wire operation for train/trams in 1926. Then the U4 section was converted again in 1976 to full metro using third rail and high level platforms. Some stations retain the flavor of the original Stadtbahn, but most do not. This line rings the south and east side of Vienna's downtown.
