"Desire" Streetcars? |
A streetcar named desire. The Crescent City has big plans of expansion for Light Rail, although the equipment may resemble the classic Perley-Thomas cars. The city has linked the tourist "River Front Trolley" with the St. Charles mainline. The River Front line is operating with newly built Perley-Thomas replicas, built in the New Orleans car shops. The Canal Street line opened in late 2003.
Hurricane Katrina did heavy damage to the St. Charles line, and destroyed the new cars for the Canal St Line. As of 2013 all lines are back in operation, and a new line opened up to the Amtrak/Greyhound Station. Another new line is currently under construction.
