Airport MAX

RED

The Red Line opened for business on 9/10/01 at 12 noon. Of course with the events of September 11th, the hoopla over this new line had been subdued.

The line starts at a two track stub terminal by baggage claim next to the "A" Concourse. The line then runs single track sandwiched between Airport Way and the airport ramp for Horizon Airlines. After passing the cargo area the line returns to double-track (With a 3rd turn back track west of 82nd).  The line then enters its first station, Mt. Hood Ave. The trains meander through a future multi-use development stopping at Cascade Station (which did not open until 2007).

The line then heads into the median of I-205 going over an impressive bridge over the freeway, and stopping at Parkrose Transit Center. After Parkrose the line continues up I-205, then ducks under the freeway and enters single track territory. The trains duck under the MAX mainline, then make a 180 degree curve to enter the Gateway Station of the Blue line. Trains follow the Blue line route to city center and end their trips at the Beaverton Transit Center. All in all, a very impressive line.

Ktransit.com is proud to offer a Station by Station guide of the entire MAX system. Below are Transit Centers and other major stations on the line, for a full index, see the Portland Light rail Station Index Page
