Brussels is a very interesting city. Half of the city is Flemish (similar to Dutch), the other half is French. Many stations signs on the Brussels system are written in Flemish and French. Just as much as the city is divided, there is an interesting mix of transit modes in the Belgium capital.
There are traditional streetcar lines, some upgraded to light rail. Many streetcar lines feed into the various pre-metro tunnels around the city. Then there are the traditional metro lines. A one day pass ticket will let you ride the entire city rail and bus system. The Belgium Railway offers commuter service, but that will be covered under mainline railroads
