Bison at West Thumb
|
Today was our first
full day at Yellowstone. By 8:30am we left our campsite to start our
tour. We started at the West Thumb Geyser basin along Yellowstone
Lake. The colors from some of the pools was simply amazing. This is
also where we saw our first wildlife. A Bison was within the boardwalk
area and was easy to approach with not to much fear as there were
railings protecting us.

Kepler Cascades |
After this visit we
continued on. We crossed the Continental Divide. There is a unique
lake at the top of one of the Divide that is interesting. Because how
the divide goes at this point, the eastern outlet of the lake goes to
the Pacific Ocean, while the western outlet heads to the Gulf of
Mexico, strange! Our next stop was at the Kepler Cascades, a neat
water fall overlook.

Old Faithful |
At 11:00 am we arrived
at Old Faithful. We only had to wait about 15 minutes before we got a
show. After the glory of Old Faithful we walked around the geyser
basin. We did not get to see Grand Geyser even though we waited 45
minutes. But we did get to see some neat smaller geysers show their
stuff. Then it was a late lunch time.
Our next stop was to
visit several of the other geyser basins. We also drove along a narrow
road following the Firehole River with a beautiful cascade. Above the
cascade was a swimming hole, but it was to crowded to stop. By the
time we were done, it was 6:00pm and we did not get back to our
campsite until 7:00 pm for dinner. We were all pooped!
