Oedo Line

O-Edo

The Oedo line was originally called Toei # 12. Now the line circles the city with a handle branch. Edo is the old name for Tokyo. "O" means big, but is also a play on the letter since the line circles Tokyo. This line is unique in that it is on the only subway line in Tokyo that uses Linear Induction Motors (LIMs) for propulsion. The cars are also smaller to reduce costs in tunneling and due to the LIM setup. The line is also very deep compared to the other lines.
