Light Rail

Edmonton is the birthplace of modern light rail in North America. This small one route system runs in a subway in downtown and onto the University district on account of the brutal Alberta winters. They use a version of the Frankfort U2 car, now almost the North American industry standard car.

Edmonton light rails has been slowly growing over the years with southward extensions and to the northwest. Further extensions are planned.

Edmonton maintains 2 vintage streetcar lines, both operated by a non-profit group. The first line is at Fort Edmonton Park, the other connects the capitol mall district with Strathcona.
