JR Railroad Photos

Japan divided up the former national railroad, JNR, into separate private railroads in the 1980's. All the JR lines are narrow gauge. Most of the network is electrified, particularly the passenger routes. But many miles of non-electrified territories still exist. The JR Lines are the trains that the average Japanese person rides everyday. Many of the routes act as feeders or even parallel the much faster Shinkansen Lines.
