The Docklands Light Railway is an automated line.
It is near metro standards as the line is fully grade separated, uses high
platforms and has a high frequency of service. Despite the line being
automated there is a Passenger Service Agent on each train. They check for
tickets as well as close the doors at each station.
The railway was built to develop the Docklands area
of London. Shipping was moved further down river thus creating a waste
land. It is hard to believe it now as there is much development in the
area. The line is fun to ride and there are two underground sections.
There are great railfan seats in the front of each train!
