Lyon
Lyon first had a steam tram line in 1879. The system electified in the 1890s. The system went all over the city and suburbs. In the 1930's tram lines started to ne replaced by trolleybuses and buses. The last urban tram ran in 1956.

France in the 1990s started having a tram rennaisance, and Lyon joined the party. The first line opened in 2001. Today there are six tram lines plus the Rhone-Express, basically a limited stop express tram line with higher fares linking the city to the airport.

Tram service is pretty frequent, clean and quiet.
