This is more commonly called the Minato Line. It
branches off of the JR Joban Line at Katsuta. It is a short single-track
interurban that head to the Ocean front of Hitachinaka. The line was run
by the local bus company until 2007 when the city took it over, with a
private operator (Third sector railway in Japan parlance).
It was heavily damages in the March 2011
Earthquake/Tsunami. Buses took over the service. As of April 2011, rail
service was not expected to be restored until sometime in July 2011.
