Maglev Trains

Japan is working on the next generation Shinkansen. They would like to build a very expense Maglev system. A several mile test track was built in the Yamanashi prefecture. It is on the right-of-way of the proposed Chuo Shinkansen. It would connect Tokyo with Osaka via the inland route (Chuo means central). To make this a valid test, tunnels and bridges and one station were built on a two track right-of-way. The webmaster went to the visitor center in August of 1998. It was not operating that day and the equipment was not in view. But it was still impressive.
