Although not the busiest station in Tokyo (that is Shinjuku), it certainly the most grandous station with many JR lines converging here. It a major complex on multiple levels. There are 2 sets of underground JR platforms, Most the platforms are just 1 level above surface, including the Shinkansen platforms. There is also one pair of track on an upper level for the Chuo line. There is also a convenient connection to the Tokyo subway. The sation ia a mini-city with lots of shops and restaurants to choose from on mulitple levels. It can be quite daunting for Japanese and foreigner alike. But there are a lot of signs in both Japanese and English (plus Korean and Chinese). The best part of the station is the Marunouchi entrance which is said to be patterned after Amsterdam's Centraal Station. The building houses a boutique hotel. Below highlights the station areas.
