This
is the token NY is famous for, the
"Y" cuts. This is the original dime sized token. It is the first
NYC Transit issued token in 7/25/53 for $0.15. Before this token was replaced
on 1/3/70 the fare had risen to $0.20. |

This
is the larger "Y" cut token was
issued from 1/4/70 until 10/28/78, fares were, $0.30, $0.35 and $0.50 |

The next token was the "Y" without
the cut. It was tied to a fare increase. It was issued in from 6/28/80
until 4/21/86 Fares were $0.60, $0.75, $0.90 and $1.00. |

Next came the
"Bullet" token which was suppose to curb slug
usage at the turnstiles. It was issued from 4/22/86 - 11/11/95 Fares: $1.00,
$1.15, & $1.25. There was another
"special" edition to this style token for the
Archer Ave. Extension. I do not have it in my
collection. |
The
final token for NY, the pentagon cutout. It was first issued 11/12/95
with a fare of $1.50. This will be the
last of NY's famous tokens as the Metrocard will be
replacing it very shortly. |

This is a special subway 75th Diamond
anniversary token issued 10/29/78. It was used along with
the standard token in use at the time. The subway turned
75 years old (1904) in 1979, hence the diamond cut-out.
The one side shows one of the famous subway Kiosk
entrances stating: NYC Subway 1904-1979; People Moving
People. The obverse shows one of the original IRT subway
cars and states: Diamond Jubilee; Seventy Fifth
Anniversary; NYC Subway 1904-1979 |
