Here is what started the demise of the token, the original Metrocard. Initially used as a test. Later enough subway turnstiles were able to accept it for general distribution
This card is a part of a 4 card set of inaugural cards published in 1995. The card for $1.25 depicts the interior of Grand Central Terminal. Both the fare amount and the photo are out-dated. The base fare is now $1.50, and GCT has been totally renovated. This is the second card is the same inaugural series. It depicts the lower Manhattan Skyline in the evening.
This is the third card in the series with a face value of $10. It depicts the Marina by the World Financial Center near the famous Twin Towers in Lower Manhattan. The 4th and final card in the inaugural series with a face value of $20. It depicts the hustle and bustle of Times Square before it was Disneyfied.
