When most people think of Japan they think of crowds and temples. The
above photo shows Asakusa Temple in Tokyo. Japan has much more
then cities & crowds. Japan has a lot of small cities and towns. There
are even rural areas where there are hardly any people at all! There
is such diverse scenery to see and behold in this fabulous country.
Tokyo is of course
is a large and bustling city.
It is often said that to a Tokyo resident, New York City is like a rural
small town. Despite this Tokyo has some treasures. The best is probably
the Imperial Palace. (Photo to the right). The palace grounds are next
to the main financial, business and government districts of Tokyo.
The former guard
house on the left shows the stark contrast of traditional oriental
design and modern office buildings! The moat around the palace grounds
adds to the contrast!
To get around Tokyo you must take public transit. Tokyo has commuter
trains, subways, monorails, people movers and even streetcars. Photos of
these rapid transit systems in around Tokyo are located on the
Kavanagh Transit Website.
The family
returned to Japan in June 2003. Be sure to
see more photos of Tokyo starting with Day 2
