The existing terminal opened in 1889, and was closed in 1967 with CNJ trains being re-routed onto the PRR mainline thru Newark. This was a great station and the many immigrants after clearing Ellis Island, went here to head board a train to head west. The station is on the historic register, but the tracks are long gone, and the platform areas are going to seed. The station still has life as part of Liberty State Park and as a boarding point for Ferries to Ellis Island and Liberty Island.
